APPLYING TO ARCHAEOLOGY

The Course Description is "PhD in Archaeology"; entering the word Archaeology in the Course Directory Search should bring this up. 

When prompted in the research section of the on-line application, please make sure that you enter the code and title of the project which you are applying for, as well as the name of the proposed supervisor.

Please remember that, although you may see later dates by which you can apply to enter the course, the deadline for funding by the NERC doctoral training partnership (and for consideration for projects listed by the DTP) is January 4th.

If you wish to devise you own research project you should also submit a short research proposal which you should already have discussed with one of our staff members.

Archaeology at Cambridge is one of the leading UK Archaeology departments, Faculty play a leading role in international and national science programs and with consistently high HEFCE research ratings over the last three RAE/REF (1996 5*/5*, 2001 5*/5, 2008 60% graded 4*/3*). The Department has significant depth across a wide range of science-based archaeology including archaeobotany, archaeogenetics, archaeozoology, geoarchaeology, stable isotopic analyses and human osteology. Particular research strengths include: integrated investigations of plant, animal, and hominin dispersals in relation to palaeoclimate; past land use and human impacts on environment; diet, nutrition, and palaeopathology. The Department has very strong links with a range of sciences across the University and beyond, and has on-going research projects on every continent.
